Skanska awarded key US infrastructure projects

Skanska has signed contracts for two projects in Boston and California, with completion for both planned for 2028.

Skanska has announced the signing of two main contracts in the United States to improve the country’s infrastructure.

The first contract worth $ 450 million is at Massachusetts Port Authority (Messport) for the construction of a new parking garage and other upgrades at Terman Airport E in Boston.

This project is included in the company’s US orders for the fourth quarter (Q4) from 2024.

As part of the NCEC program from Mandsport, the Logan Airport project will build a new Terminal -E parking garage over 67,400 m².

The structure will accommodate 5,000 parking spaces and contain areas for soil transport. The project’s scope also includes a vehicular bridge connection to the central parking complex and a pedestrian bridge linking the garage to Terminals E and C.

Roadways on the arrival and departures levels will be modified for better garage access. The installation of solar photovoltaic panels on the garage facade and roof, along with a Parksmart certification pursuit, underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability.

Work is set to begin in Q1 2025, with completion anticipated in 2028.

In addition, Skanska, in a joint venture with Coffman Specialties, has signed a $389m contract with the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority for the Interstate 15 (I-15) Corridor Freight and Express Lanes Project in Ontario, California. Skanska will include its share of the contract, valued at $336 million, in the fourth quarter of 2024 U.S. order bookings.

This project will add two new express lanes along the median of I-15 for 10.8 miles, with toll plazas that are price-controlled in both northbound and southbound directions. The new lanes are expected to improve the high vehicle and truck traffic in the area, reduce congestion and save travel time.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with expected completion in July 2028.

In October 2024, Skanska was awarded a contract to build a new hospital and associated medical office building in Fort Myers, Florida, also in the U.S.
