UEW Commissions State-of-the-Art Infrastructure to Advance Academic and Research Excellence

The management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) commissioned several long-term projects on the university campus to enhance academic and research excellence.

The commission included a 100-bed hospital, two hostels with a capacity of 3,000, an ultra-modern lecturers’ complex, a commercial centre, a three-bedroom prefabricated apartment, the faculty block and water projects in Ajumako and study centres in Accra, Cape Coast and Techiman.

The former Vice Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Mawutor Avoke, while commissioning the projects with the management of the university, highlighted about 13 massive completed projects under his leadership.
“This commission is symbolic of the other projects we have pursued and completed across the length and breadth of the country. Indeed, the Ajumako and CODeL projects in Accra, Cape Coast and Techiman are also completed, but due to the pressure of work and distance, this commissioning is symbolic of all these projects,” he confessed.

The third Vice Chancellor of UEW listed the contributions of his administration to the development of the university in the short time they spent with the university. He hoped that the new administration would raise the bar and help the university live its mission and vision.

He called on the staff to rally behind the new administration in its quest to take the university to the next level. He also expressed sincere gratitude to the contractors, his management team and the staff for their unwavering support in the success of his administration. The Ag. Registrar, Ms Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, thanked Prof Avoke on behalf of the management team and staff for his leadership. She said: “We have indeed been through turbulent times and some of us admire and respect you for your tenacity. Not everyone would survive what you have experienced in this institution. We have learnt a lot from working closely with you. We believe this institution and posterity would be well-disposed towards you for the hard work and all you have done to improve the image of the university.”

She commended Prof. Avoke for bringing sanity to the institution upon his return. “You have helped to a great extent to build a bridge that has enabled all the gaps in the system to be bridged and we say a big ayekoo to you. We are very grateful to you.”
